Meet the Founder of Find Me Gluten Free

I just got back from a trip to Maine, where I used the Find Me Gluten Free app religiously — because when you have celiac, finding safe food on the go isn’t optional.

I also recently sat down with Find Me Gluten Free’s loyal and hardworking founder, Jason Elmore, to talk about what it’s like running an app that millions rely on to eat out safely — and how he navigates the ever-changing world of tech, tastes, and trust.

My 4 biggest takeaways from my chat with Jason:

(1) The challenge of eating out safely - and his friend asking him for restaurant recommendations - sparked the idea for Find Me Gluten Free.

(2) Jason says his hometown (Portland, Oregon) is one of the best cities for safe gluten-free dining. He also shares a few other must-visit cities for gluten-free foodies.

(3) Jason is constantly tinkering and improving the app, but he shares why he's on the fence about AI.

(4) Jason loves rom-coms. 🩷

5 Things I’d Do Differently If I Were Diagnosed with Celiac Today

After 13 years, I’ve learned a lot — mostly the hard way — about living with celiac disease. If I could go back to day one, here’s what I’d do differently:

(1) Focus only on gluten. When I was first diagnosed, I cut out gluten, dairy, and corn all at once. It was overwhelming and unnecessary. Start with gluten. Give your body time to heal. You can reevaluate other foods later.

(2) Support my gut health early. I wish I had started probiotics right away. They made a huge difference once I added them — but it took me years to figure that out. (Got questions about probiotics? Read this article.)

(3) Give my digestive system a break. My gut needed rest. I would have leaned into simple, nourishing foods — broths, juices, easy-to-digest meals — and given my body time between meals to heal.

(4) Eat more vegetables. I didn’t eat many veggies before celiac, but now I crave them. Roasting, seasoning, and adding variety helped me learn to love real, colorful food.

(5) Give myself grace. This one matters most. I made mistakes. I felt lost. I didn’t always get it right. But I’ve learned: healing takes time, and there is life after gluten.
