3 Celiac Studies Making Headlines

There are three new studies in the world of celiac disease this week, and here's what you need to know about each:

Could a blood test someday tell us if our intestines are healing?

If you have celiac disease, your routine bloodwork can come back normal even if your small intestine hasn't fully healed. And right now, the most direct way to check for intestinal damage is through an endoscopy with biopsies.

That's not exactly something we want to do every year!

Researchers at the University of Oslo identified 24 blood proteins associated with celiac disease, including nine closely linked to intestinal damage. Their early findings could eventually lead to a more accurate blood test that helps doctors monitor intestinal healing without another biopsy.

Could two new medications help protect us from accidental gluten exposure?

Two experimental celiac treatments, FB102 and ANB033, both reported promising clinical trial results this week. Both drugs protect the small intestine from gluten-induced damage, and ANB033 also significantly reduced symptoms during a controlled gluten challenge.

Even when weโ€™re incredibly careful, accidental gluten exposure happens. These drugs could one day give us that extra layer of protection to deter intestinal damage and make dining out and traveling less stressful.

Neither drug is approved, and even if they get approved, they wouldn't replace the gluten-free diet; however, they could someday make damage and symptoms from accidental gluten ingestion a thing of the past. ๐Ÿคž

๐ŸŽ Apple Pie Without Baking? Yes, Please!

Ethel's Baking Company is bringing back apple pie nostalgia with its limited-edition Apple Pie Dessert Bars!

Think real apple pie filling, cinnamon, and a buttery shortbread crust, all wrapped up in one delicious dessert bar.

These seasonal treats are popping up at Sprouts, Fresh Thyme, Wegman's, and other select retailers, so keep an eye out for them!

You can also get them online when you Build Your Own Dessert Box on the Ethel's website. You simply mix and match your favorite Ethel's dessert bars and cookies (may we recommend Ethel's Campfire Cookies as well?) to create your personal assortment of goodies.

๐ŸŒŽ The Latest from Gluten-Free Land

Every week, I round up the latest gluten-free product launches, exciting discoveries, and grocery store finds so you don't miss a thing!

Here's what's going on this week (and scroll down to see photos):

Trader Joeโ€™s added a gluten-free label to its Brownie Crisp Coffee Ice Cream Sandwiches. These arenโ€™t new, but the addition of a gluten-free label is.

Pamelaโ€™s just launched three gluten-free Drop Biscuit Mixes: Cheddar Garlic, Hot Honey, and Buttermilk. Who doesnโ€™t love warm, homemade biscuits, especially during cozy season?!?

BFree has a new gluten-free Protein Loaf, and I finally spotted it at Walmart! It packs 9 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber, making it an interesting new option in the gluten-free bread aisle.

Whoa Dough is bringing its Snackable Cookie Dough to Aldi starting October 21! Look for Chocolate Chip, Brownie Batter, and Sugar Cookie flavors. Baking optional!

Every Body Eat's new Sea Salt Pretzel Thins are now available at Whole Foods nationwide. These crispy, gluten-free and grain-free pretzel crackers are perfect for snacking and dipping.

Rudiโ€™s Bakery just introduced its GF Daily Power Protein Bread in White and Sourdough varieties. Each serving packs 10 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber. Find it at Sprouts.

FUNDAY, an Australian candy brand, just landed at Target! Look for its gluten-free, no-sugar-added gummies in fun flavors like Strawberry & Cream. The combination of a sweet gummy on top of a creamy foam base is very nostalgic to me.

The Good Crisp Company has brought back its limited-edition Creepy Crisps for Halloween, as featured in the October LMGF box! These spooky black potato crisps are gluten-free and only available for a limited time - hurry!

Like Air's new Drizzled Rice Cakes are available in Kroger stores nationwide! Look for Birthday Cake, Cookie Dough, Brownie, and Cinnamon Bun flavors. I've sampled them all and can attest that they are gooood!

Have a wonderful weekend, friends - see you next week!
