Here's a closer look at the products we're featuring this month:

Let's Give 'Em Pumpkin to Talk About...

It's pumpkin season, so there's no better time to share a few gourdous pumpkin recipes + exciting pumpkin products to get you in the mood.

Pumpkin Squares: These pumpkin squares are my most visited recipes this time of year —and with good reason. They're super easy to make, they feed a crowd, and they're downright delicious.

Pumpkin Donuts: These pumpkin donuts bake up moist and delicious. They're coated with a delightful maple-infused glaze.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies: I infused traditional chocolate chip cookies with pumpkin for a moist, soft, and chewy pumpkin cookie that is a family favorite! 😉

The Pick of the Patch

We also love that several brands are making pumpkin-infused products this year. Here are some of our favs:

Barley Malt is a No-Go

With Halloween around the corner, I wanted to give you a friendly reminder that barley is not gluten-free and can hide in many products and candies. Beware!

Avoid ingredients made with malt, yeast extract, brown rice syrup, and natural flavors unless they're certified gluten-free (e.g., some gluten-free products contain gluten-free yeast extract).

And while companies are legally required to disclose if a product contains wheat (as shown in "May Contains" statements), they don't have to disclose if a product contains barley. Even "wheat-free" and rice-based products can contain barley.

For a complete guide on hidden barley sources and how to protect yourself, read my article, Beware of Malt and these 21 Potential Sources of Barley (Gluten).

Remember, barley hides in these everyday products:

  • Frosted Flakes
  • Rice Krispies
  • Corn Flakes
  • Malt Vinegar Chips
  • 100 Grand Bars
  • Milky Way Bars
  • Whoppers (Malt Balls)
  • Malt vinegar
  • Knorr Vegetable Bouillon
  • Milkshakes (made with malted powder)

Meet KC Sunshine's Cookies

Check out the latest episode of my podcast, Gluten Free Unwrapped. I feature KC Styers, the founder of KC Sunshine's Cookies. She transitioned from the classroom to business owner when she started a gluten-free and plant-based cookie business in her mid-50s.

She's proof that it's never too late to follow your dreams, and, in fact, how experience and wisdom have prepared her for this next big chapter of her life.

📣 Tune in on Apple Podcast, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's an incredible interview with an up-and-coming entrepreneur in the gluten-free space!

That's all I have for this week. I'll be back next week with more exciting news from gluten-free land!

Sincerely,

Jenny

Hello Reader, Next month, Love Me Gluten Free turns two. And we’ve come a long way since those humble beginnings in my basement, where friends and family helped me pack our very first boxes. Remember my first box ever? It was themed "Love From Colorado" and featured brands from my home state. This business hasn’t been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding. I’m grateful to every single one of you who has supported this journey, whether you’ve purchased a box, followed along through these...

Hello Reader, It's the first day of spring, and I've got a new Nima test, fun recipes, new product finds (and discounts), and more. Let's get to it! Testing Drumroll Donuts 🍩 I think I’m losing my mind. I saw a celiac creator post about Drumroll donuts, saying they contain oats, but when I checked the ingredient list. There are no oats. Regardless, I thought, let's go ahead and test them with my Nima, just to put everyone's mind at ease. As you know, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship...

Hello Reader, Many of you have told me how much my weekly newsletter means to you, and truly, that feedback never gets old. That said… a few of you have gently (and not-so-gently 😉) mentioned that my Friday emails can be a bit long. Fair. I do tend to have a lot to say. This week, I’m trying two shorter newsletters you can quickly scan and enjoy. Let’s see how it goes. Feedback is always welcome! Exciting Changes at LMGF As many of you know, I also founded Love Me Gluten Free, a subscription...
