Hello Reader, As we head into Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for being "here" and for being a part of this community. I know you're busy preparing for Thanksgiving, so I'll get right to it: Thanksgiving ShortcutsWhile I once loved sharing homemade gluten-free recipes, including my list of 16 Gluten-Free Thanksgiving Recipes, I feel like gluten-free products have come so far, and I rarely make things from scratch anymore. Time is short, and store-bought items are pretty darn amazing these days. This year, I’m simplifying:
There’s one thing I am still making from scratch: my Cranberry Jalapeno Salsa appetizer. It’s fresh, festive, and a Thanksgiving tradition at my house. I recommend serving this tasty appetizer dip with the amazing Crunchmaster crackers (sponsored) for perfect scooping. Grab the recipe on my blog ... and isn't she pretty?!? 👇👇 I love this recipe soooo much! A Gluten-Free Gift IdeaLooking for the perfect gift for your gluten-free friend? I’d never really had these candies myself, but when I learned this, I was surprised. It was one of those classic “they don’t look like they contain gluten” moments. Before I shared this information with you, I looked it up online to do a little more research. Here's what it says on Werther's website: Werther’s Original products meet the FDA requirements for gluten-free foods (no more than 20 ppm of gluten per product); however, we have chosen not to label our products as “gluten-free” at this time. If you have a gluten allergy, we recommend that you speak to your physician before consuming our product. Here's the issue: Glucose syrup, which is typically derived from wheat, is highly processed and can be considered gluten-free (meaning it contains some gluten, but less than 20 ppm, which meets the FDA's gluten-free labeling standards). This makes it technically okay for people with celiac disease. However, here's why I'm avoiding these candies. Without proper labeling, batch testing, or even better, a gluten-free certification, any product containing wheat—even if it "technically" meets the FDA’s gluten-free threshold—is too risky. As you know, I'm often one to help you take the brakes off your gluten-free diet. I think overrestriction is a big issue in our community. However, Werther's doesn't give me confidence that it is safe. I realize some of you may disagree with me, and that's okay. No judgment here if you want to eat it; we can all decide what is right for us. 😊 Wishing you a beautiful - and SAFE - Thanksgiving holiday. They couldn’t reliably supply test capsules (rendering the device useless), the company was poorly managed,...
