Breaking Down the Gluten-Free Cheez-It Cracker Ingredients + Hype!

Hello Reader,

Happy New Year! I hope you rang in the New Year with people you love most in this world!

I'll keep things short and sweet today - as I'm still in vacation mode, and honestly, a little loopy from New Year's Eve! The couch is calling my name...

Cheez-Its or Bust

You can’t scroll on Instagram without seeing people talk about the new gluten-free Cheez-Its—the Internet is losing its mind! At first, I wondered, why all the hype?

But my friend Trish Thomas of Every Body Eat gave me perspective: people who can’t eat the “real thing” are excited to finally try a snack they’ve only heard about. (Listen to her comments here.)

But let's take a closer look at the gluten-free Cheez-Its. Here's what you need to know:

  • Certified gluten-free by GFCO
  • Kosher certified
  • Contains milk and soy allergens; may contain almonds
  • Includes seed oils and TBHQ (a preservative)

Here's the full ingredient label:

While you can enjoy this nostalgic treat, remember that several certified gluten-free brands have been making cheese crackers for us all along.

If you'd like to support small brands or want a cheesy cracker that meets your other dietary needs, give any of these crackers a try:

Every Body Eat Cheese-Less Cracker Thins (dairy-free)

Why Snacks Original Cheddar Crackers (contains milk)

From the Ground Up - Cauliflower Crackers Cheddar (dairy-free)

Mary's Gone Crackers Cheddar Cheezee Crackers (dairy-free)

Make Your Own Cheezy Crackers

While I haven’t made my own Cheez-Its dupe yet, I did whip up a clean (and delicious!) Goldfish dupe, and I wanted to share it with you today.

These homemade “goldfish” crackers are surprisingly tasty—and dare I say, even better than the traditional version! If you’re looking for a fun (and savory) baking project, this one is definitely worth trying.
