Certified GF Doesn’t Mean What You Think | GF Baseball Games?!? | New Product Alert

Hello Reader,

Next month, Love Me Gluten Free turns two. And we’ve come a long way since those humble beginnings in my basement, where friends and family helped me pack our very first boxes.

Remember my first box ever? It was themed "Love From Colorado" and featured brands from my home state.

This business hasn’t been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding.

I’m grateful to every single one of you who has supported this journey, whether you’ve purchased a box, followed along through these newsletters, cheered us on via social media, or shared kind words.

To celebrate our birthday, the April box is aptly themed "The Birthday Box." 🎉

And we still have a few April boxes left. They ship on Monday - so hurry!

Certified Gluten-Free Doesn’t Mean What You Think

If you spend any time in gluten-free Facebook groups, you’ve probably seen someone post a product that is certified gluten-free... and then also show a disclosure on the package that says it was made on shared equipment with wheat or produced in a facility with wheat.

And then the comments, misinformation, arguing, and fear-mongering start.

And when someone tries to bring a little common sense into the conversation, they often get shut down.

Today, I want to talk about what "certified gluten-free" means - and doesn't mean so you can be an educated gluten-free consumer and tune out the hysteria.

✅ Certified GF means the product has been tested and verified by a reputable third party.

✅ It means the product meets very strict standards, often even stricter than those required by the FDA.

✅ It means the product is safe for those of us with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Period.

❌ However, it doesn't mean that the product was made on dedicated equipment or in a dedicated facility.

But here's the part that may surprise you.

Many reputable certified gluten-free products are made on shared equipment. But not all disclose such information.

A shared equipment/facility statement is 100% voluntary. Some companies include it to be as transparent as possible. Others do not.

So when we avoid one certified gluten-free product because it discloses it's made on shared equipment, but then we trust another one that does not mention it at all, we are not actually making a "safer" choice. We are just reacting to the wording.

❌ Of course, if you have a severe wheat allergy where even trace exposure to wheat could cause a serious reaction, then yes, this is something you should look at more closely. And because the disclosure is voluntary, you will need to reach out to each brand to find out whether the product is made in a safe environment for you.

However, those of us with celiac disease or gluten intolerance can consume certified gluten-free products, even those made on shared lines, safely. Without question. Without fear.

Play Ball!

The Celiac Disease Foundation is behind three upcoming Celiac Awareness Games. A portion of ticket sales benefit the foundation, and I have a strong suspicion there will be GF food available at these games.

On the Podcast

This week on Gluten Free Unwrapped, I’m chatting with Kristine Tran, co-founder of NUFS.

Kristine shares the real story behind her budding seed-oil-free cracker brand, the good, the bad, and the ugly. She opens up about how her father’s illness inspired her and her sister, Jess, to create a product made with only clean ingredients.

I loved this conversation and think you will too.

And bonus, Kristine is offering an amazing discount for listeners, so be sure to check out this episode on my blog or wherever you get your podcasts. NUFS are truly delicious crackers - I highly recommend 'em!!

New Product Alert

I spotted these tortillas at Sprouts a few weeks ago and included them in an Instagram round-up.

The comments have been so positive, so I wanted to share them with you. The tortillas puff up when you heat them.

I haven't tried them yet - but will do so after Passover. Let me know if you've tried 'em.

Goodbye March Box

It's time to say goodbye to our incredible March box.

Don't forget, many of these brands are offering fantastic discounts that expire at the end of March. Last week, I stocked up on Zolli Taffy (26% off) and Seaweed Bath Co (20% off). All the active coupon codes from March are listed HERE.

It's a Glow Up

Be sure to follow me on Instagram (@goodforyouglutenfree and @lovemeglutenfree) to see our 🌟NEW🌟 boxes. Love Me Gluten Free has undergone a glow-up. No more pink boxes - you'll have to tune in to see our new look!

And to my Jewish friends, I hope you have a beautiful Passover and meaningful seders. Am Yisrael Chai.

Sincerely,

Jenny

Hello Reader, Every time a new Love Me Gluten Free box goes out into the world, I get a little nervous. It’s such a strange feeling. On the one hand, I’m so proud of what I’ve created and curated… and on the other, it feels like I’m putting a piece of myself out there, wondering what everyone will think. If you’ve ever created something and shared it publicly, you probably know exactly what I mean. That said… this May box? She’s a keeper!! I leaned more savory this month after last month’s...

Hello Reader, I do my best to keep you informed on all things gluten-free… but sometimes what I have to share just plain sucks. This is one of those times. As of April 2026, Mars has updated several M&M’s products in New Zealand—including Peanut, Milk Chocolate, and Minis—to include gluten-containing ingredients (specifically barley malt extract). They’re working to spread the word, even sponsoring a post with @coeliacnewzealand to notify the community (more like… alarm everyone). For now,...
