Confusing GF Labels | Travel-Ready Products | Strawberry šŸ“ Recipes | New Bakeries

Hello Reader,

I recently spotted a certified gluten-free product (GFCO certified!) that also had a label saying, "May contain wheat." Wait… what?

Turns out, the product is made in a shared facility—not on shared equipment—and the manufacturer added the warning as a legal precaution. I spoke with the brand owner, who assured me the product tests below 10 ppm of gluten, which meets GFCO’s strict standards (stricter than the FDA's 20 ppm!).

She’s planning to change the label to say, ā€œManufactured in a facility that also processes wheat,ā€ which better reflects the situation and feels less alarming.

Bottom line: If a product is GFCO certified, it's safe for those of us with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Labels can be confusing, so when in doubt, ask for clarification. I'm glad I did. I’ll share more about this brand later this year once the new labels are live.

Travel With These Essentials This Summer

You’ve heard the saying: "Failing to plan is planning to fail." That’s especially true when traveling gluten-free.

Where will you eat? Do you need reservations? Should you pack snacks or meals?

Before you hit the road, check out my article, 27 Practical Tips for Traveling Gluten-Free — it’s packed with helpful insights to make your trip smoother.

And while you don’t need to pack your entire pantry, it’s smart to bring a few safe, easy-to-carry foods, just in case. Here are some of my go-to suggestions:

(1) Bring Your Own Bread (BYOB)

If you’re planning to pack lunch daily (highly recommended to avoid midday food scrambles), be sure to bring your favorite gluten-free bread. You might find a decent option at your destination, but let’s be real—not all GF bread is created equal.

I love BFree’s new Dutch Crunch Sandwich Rolls (find them at Walmart). No toasting required!

PRO TIP: Flying? Pack a lunchbox and frozen ice pack. TSA allows them in carry-ons for domestic flights as long as they're frozen.

(2) Portable Meals

I always stash a few Good To-Go meals in my backpack when I travel. These chef-created, gluten-free dehydrated meals are super flavorful—and lifesavers in a pinch.

Just last month, I ate the Kale & White Bean Stew in my hotel room after a late arrival. I didn’t feel like wandering out alone in a new city, and I was starving.

PRO TIP: No microwave? Use the hotel coffeemaker to heat water. It works like a charm.

(3) Protein Bites and Bars

I used to dread eating protein bars—dry, chalky, meh. But the market has seriously leveled up, and I’ve been sampling some delicious options lately.

One standout? The GFB. Their bars are great, but their protein bites are next-level. They just launched a nut-free line, including the new Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, which are super addictive.

Strawberry Season is Here!

It’s the perfect time to load up on juicy, ripe strawberries—and I’ve got tons of gluten-free recipes to help you make the most of them! Think: Strawberry Chia Jam, Strawberry Shortcake, and my personal favorite, Gluten-Free Angel Food Cake.

Hello Reader, I wanted to drop a few exciting updates into your inbox mid-week. First off, people in gluten-free land have lost their minds at the idea that Cheez-Its are coming out with a gluten-free version of its beloved cracker. Yes, it's exciting news when large companies make products for us and finally recognize the importance of our small but mighty community. However, the news was not earth-shattering for me, as I was like, "Where have you been this whole time?" Image credit to a...
