✈️ Do You Get an Extra Carry-On Because You Have Celiac?

Hello Reader,

We've got a lot to catch up on this week!

I'm digging into a viral claim about traveling with celiac disease, sharing some exclusive discounts, and making delicious pumpkin cream cheese muffins.

And I've got something NEW for you this week!

I'm starting a little Friday tradition called The Latest from Gluten-Free Land, where I'll share new products, restaurant news, recalls, and other gluten-free news you might have missed from the week. You'll always find this feature tucked away at the bottom of this newsletter.

Grab your coffee and let's get into it!

✈️ Does Celiac Disease Get You an Extra Carry-On Bag?

I've been seeing people on social media claim that because celiac disease is a disability, we're entitled to bring an extra carry-on bag filled with gluten-free food.

Is this true?!

I decided to investigate, and what I found was a lot of uncertainty.

The truth is that there are no clear federal guidelines guaranteeing an extra bag. And when I contacted an airline, the customer service agents couldn't give me a straight answer. This only left me questioning whether this viral claim is valid.

And there's something else I think we need to talk about as a community: Disability accommodations are there for people who genuinely need them, not as a loophole to snag an extra carry-on bag. I say this because in my 14 years of traveling with celiac disease, I've personally never needed an extra carry-on bag just for food.

So what's actually allowed, and what do you need to know before your next flight?

I break down what I learned, what I could/couldn't confirm, and my advice for traveling with celiac disease in this NEW article on my blog.
