Is the LEO Tester a Boom or Bust? | I Might Get Cancelled for Saying This About Oats | GF Desserts, Paninis & More!

Hello Reader,

Before I dive into this week’s gluten-free news, I wanted to let you know that pre-orders for the June Love Me Gluten Free box are now open. This is your chance to join the fun ... but don’t wait because our June box is almost sold out.

These boxes are such a joy to curate and even more fun to unbox. But the real highlight? The amazing messages I receive from you every day. They truly keep me going - thank you!

"This box has been a lifesaver and helps open our eyes to what is now being offered for those who are gluten-free. I can't thank you enough for creating such a wonderful thing. We appreciate every bit of love that goes into each box!” – Jackie V.

“Love Me Gluten Free has changed my life! No more apprehension about spending tons of money on unknown products that may or may not actually be gluten-free. Thank you for bringing the fun back to eating!” – Traci C.

"My son has been receiving your boxes for about six months now. Today, he texted me to say, “Boy, these boxes just keep getting better!” Thought you would like to know." - Kathy D.

If you'd like to join Love Me Gluten Free, reserve your June box HERE. Again, don't delay. I’m almost sold out! (If you're a current subscriber, your account renews tomorrow, and I already have a box reserved for you.)

LEO: A Game-Changing Tool or Bust?

A few weeks ago, I told you about a new at-home gluten tester called LEO. Well, a few things have transpired since then.

The Gluten Free Watchdog published an article questioning LEO’s accuracy. She made some valid points, and it prompted me to take a deeper dive into LEO myself.

I tested several products that clearly contained gluten, like a hoagie roll and breadcrumbs, just to see how LEO would respond. I'm sad to say that LEO didn’t perform as promised. I thought it might be a total bust... or so I thought.

After a detailed conversation with the company's founders and re-testing with a new technique recommended by the company this week, I'm feeling more optimistic. LEO has potential, but it definitely needs work.

I break it all down IN THIS ARTICLE—it's too much to include here, but if you're considering buying LEO (or already have), I highly recommend reading it. And be sure to follow the updated testing guidelines for the most accurate results.

Stop With the Misinformation About Oats

Oats in certified gluten-free products have become a surprisingly sensitive topic in the gluten-free community. I want to gently clear up some of the confusion and offer helpful information so you can make confident choices for yourself.

If someone has told you that you must avoid certified gluten-free products that contain oats, or that you have to track down the exact source of those oats, they are causing you unnecessary worry and work!

If a product is certified gluten-free by an organization like the GFCO, it means it’s been independently tested and verified to contain less than 10 parts per million of gluten — a threshold supported by leading celiac experts and years of scientific research.

These certifications exist to protect us and simplify the label-reading process, not complicate it. Avoiding a properly certified product just because it contains oats isn’t necessary for the vast majority of people with celiac disease.

I’m sharing this because I’ve received questions about the oats in Sweet Sydney’s Best Bar, which I included in the May Love Me Gluten Free box. This product is certified gluten-free by GFCO — and yes, it’s also absolutely delicious!

I contacted the owner of Sweet Sydney’s. He confirmed the oats are gluten-free, and that his products meet the strict GFCO standards of less than 10 ppm.

Let me be very clear: If you’re someone who cannot tolerate oats, you should, of course, avoid them — no explanation needed. Your experience is valid. But what I'm sharing today is broader, research-backed guidance on gluten-free labeling and certification.

If you have thoughts or questions, I’d love to hear from you. You can comment directly on this Instagram post to join the conversation or email me if that’s more comfortable.

We’re all navigating this together, and my goal is always to bring clarity, not controversy, and to help you live your gluten-free life with more freedom and less restriction.

The Best Bar by Sweet Sydney's

There's a reason Sweet Sydney's Best Bar is called a "Best Bar." It's made with a buttery oat shortbread crust layered with gooey caramel, melty chocolate chips, and a sprinkle of coconut, and topped with more dollops of shortbread dough. One bite and you'll understand why we love Sweet Sydney's and its signature product.

Sweet Sydney's also makes a slew of certified gluten-free treats, including soft-baked cookies in every flavor, chocolate chip brownies, and lemon bars.

If you haven't tried Sweet Sydney's, what are you waiting for? We featured two Sweet Sydney's bars in my May Love Me Gluten Free box, but if you missed out, you can still try them and get 20% off - sweet!

Paninis Anyone?

I almost forgot how much I love a good panini. Last week, I invited my parents for a Mother's Day lunch, and I served warm paninis and my delicious roasted tomato soup.

I used Canyon Bakehouse's Ancient Grain Bread for the paninis, and wow, it's so soft, and it toasted perfectly in my panini press. My gluten-loving dad even said, "Hey, this bread is pretty good." I'll take the win!

Canyon Bakehouse is a staple in my gluten-free kitchen, and I love trying all of their fun varieties. Earlier this year, they came out with a new sourdough bread that is tangy and delicious. And I'm still thinking about the cinnamon raisin bread they launched last year. Another fab find!

Hello Reader, I recently spotted a certified gluten-free product (GFCO certified!) that also had a label saying, "May contain wheat." Wait… what? Turns out, the product is made in a shared facility—not on shared equipment—and the manufacturer added the warning as a legal precaution. I spoke with the brand owner, who assured me the product tests below 10 ppm of gluten, which meets GFCO’s strict standards (stricter than the FDA's 20 ppm!). She’s planning to change the label to say,...

Hello Reader, I wanted to drop a few exciting updates into your inbox mid-week. First off, people in gluten-free land have lost their minds at the idea that Cheez-Its are coming out with a gluten-free version of its beloved cracker. Yes, it's exciting news when large companies make products for us and finally recognize the importance of our small but mighty community. However, the news was not earth-shattering for me, as I was like, "Where have you been this whole time?" Image credit to a...
