Hello Reader, I know it's Thursday instead of our usual Friday, but I wanted to get ahead of the holiday weekend. Please join me in a few hours on Facebook Live as I reveal our July "A Taste of Summer" Love Me Gluten Free box, and we kick off the holiday weekend together! π πΊπΈ π A few special notes about this week's live:
PS: Here's a sneak peek at our July box. She's incredible - truly! New Gluten-Free Finds!I'm in New York City attending an industry trade show. I have to admit, this show hasn't been as exciting as the others. Only a few gluten-free brands attended. Regardless, I did find some hidden gems that I'm dying to tell you about, including:
I also learned that San-J is coming out with Hot Honey Teriyaki (super on-trend flavor and tasty too), and Drench, a brand known for its incredibly clean salad dressings, just released a line of sauces called "Dupes" (the picture speaks for itself). The New York Food SceneThere are so many gluten-free options in New York City. I can see the draw of living here, although I do love my Denver bubble. π€£ I have already eaten at two of my favorite places: Modern Bread & Bagel (of course) and Friedman's in Battery Park, where I ordered Crispy Sesame Chicken and legit Chow Fun noodles. If you love and miss Chinese food, this is worth a visit. We also went to a dedicated gluten-free restaurant called Wild. The Chicken Piccata was outstanding, and the noodles served with it were a highlight. The pizza was meh, but you can't win 'em all. We also found a dessert place called El Churro that only makes gluten-free churros. Yes, we pigged out on these bad boys: I'm here for a few more days, and we plan to visit Polonco Social, a sit-down, gluten-free restaurant that blends Mexican and Jewish cuisines and is run by the Modern Bread & Bagel team. I also have a few other restaurants on my list that I hope to get to. More to come... July Box Sold OutThe July Love Me Gluten Free box sold out - thank you! Hello Reader, We've come a long way when it comes to celiac disease awareness, advocacy, and gluten-free education. But this week has reminded me just how much work we still have to do. From gluten hiding in unexpected places to confusing food-labeling laws, there's still plenty we need to know, question, and advocate for. So let's get into it. β€οΈ Why We Need Barley Clearly Disclosed on Food Labels Last week, I posted on Instagram that Popsicle Fudgsicles contain malted barley extract, aka...
Hello Reader, Honestly, friends, I can't make this stuff up. Spanx founder Sara Blakely recently shared a video from her trip to Italy on Instagram, saying that she and a friend "are two girls who are gluten-free and ate every single thing with gluten in Italy." She also showed the heavy suitcases full of Italian flour they brought home. Whether intentional or not, posts like these reinforce one of the biggest myths in the gluten-free community: that people with celiac disease can somehow...
Hello Reader, Last week, I shared three really stupid ways I've accidentally glutened myself. π Your responses were fun to read, as many of you replied with your own stories. As it turns out, many of us have bought the wrong version of a product. I mentioned how I've been confused by Goodles, Bob's Red Mill, and Van's Waffles, since they all make a gluten-free and gluten-full version, but you all added even more to my list - spot the differences? Be careful out there... 3 Gluten-Free "Rules"...
