Hello Reader, Memorial Day weekend is here (in the US), which means summer is unofficially kicking off. āļø More travel. More BBQs. More road trips. More āletās just grab something quickā moments. And while summer is supposed to feel fun and carefree, I also know this season can throw a lot of curveballs at those of us living gluten-free. Routines go out the window. You're eating out more. People hand you mystery burgers without buns and say, āI think itās gluten-free?ā So here are a few friend-to-friend reminders to kick off your summer:
And speaking of being prepared⦠the June Love Me Gluten Free box is packed with travel-ready gluten-free foods perfect for road trips, flights, pool days, picnics, and more! Because your gluten-free lifestyle doesnāt go on summer vacation⦠neither should your food stash. š June boxes ship in just 10 days!! āļø Use code GFSUMMER for 20% off your first box at lovemeglutenfree.com (new monthly subs only). GF Peanut Butter Stuffed French Toast SticksI canāt believe how many people are obsessing over the BFree Homestyle Sourdough Bread. Itās truly one of those rare āwonder breadsā that tastes good at room temperature. While most gluten-free breads need a good toast session to come alive, this one is soft, fluffy, and delicious right out of the bag. My team took things to another level and turned this tasty bread into nostalgic Peanut Butter Stuffed French Toast Sticks, and they are perfection. Crispy on the outside, warm and peanut buttery on the inside. 𤤠Grab a loaf of BFree Homestyle Sourdough Bread (as featured in the May Love Me Gluten Free box, or find it at Walmart, Target, and Kroger) and see for yourself what the buzz is about. š¬ Watch us make the PB French Toast Dippers in this video! Robby Hoffman Said What?!? š”I had never heard of Robby Hoffman before this week. But suddenly, the internet decided I needed to know exactly who this semi-celeb is. Hoffman is a comedian famous for marrying former Bachelorette contestant Gabby Windey. She sparked backlash after mocking celiac disease on the Call Her Daddy podcast. In the interview, Hoffman said celiac disease āisnāt real,ā joked that she needs to see someone āblowing upā from eating gluten before she would take the "allergy" seriously, and she questioned why āeveryone is suddenly celiac.ā And honestly? I understand why the celiac community is upset. Comments like these reinforce the exact attitudes we face every day:
The problem is that celiac disease doesnāt require someoneās personal belief to exist. It's a medically recognized autoimmune disease where gluten triggers an immune attack on the small intestine. Some people get violently sick immediately. Others experience symptoms that are less visible, like anemia, migraines, infertility, neurological issues, or long-term intestinal damage. Not every illness looks dramatic from the outside. And while I understand that people are increasingly skeptical of wellness culture and trendy diets, celiac disease is none of those things. Bottom line: Not every illness is visible. Celebrities are not medical experts. Sometimes the loudest people in the room are also the least informed. How to Know If You're Nutrient Deficient?Forget the Call Her Daddy podcast, check out the latest episode of the Gluten-Free Unwrapped podcast instead. I interview registered dietitian Jessica Lebovits to talk about nutrient deficiencies - how to understand if you have one, and what to do about it. Unfortunately, so many people with celiac disease struggle with low vitamin levels, even after going gluten-free, and Jessica offers important guidelines every celiac needs to hear. Jessica also hosts Belly Bestie Club meetups in NYC - so check out her events if you're near NYC. She also shares the best spot in New York for pizza. I've added the restaurant to my bucket list! Hello Reader, Fourteen years into living with celiac disease, and somehow, this never gets easier. Iām writing you from a business conference. When I registered, they asked about food allergies, and I clearly marked mine on the form, thinking that would be enough. But once I got here? There really wasnāt food for me. Iāve been in this situation enough times to know what to do. I opened the Find Me Gluten Free app, found a nearby spot with GF options, and left the conference to get myself...
Hello Reader, Every time a new Love Me Gluten Free box goes out into the world, I get a little nervous. Itās such a strange feeling. On the one hand, Iām so proud of what Iāve created and curated⦠and on the other, it feels like Iām putting a piece of myself out there, wondering what everyone will think. If youāve ever created something and shared it publicly, you probably know exactly what I mean. That said⦠this May box? Sheās a keeper!! I leaned more savory this month after last monthās...
