Hello Reader, I had a surreal moment this weekâmy daughter turned 18! While that made me feel old, to add insult to injury, I received this message from Apple: "According to the birthday associated with their account, [my daughter's name] is now an adult, and has access to their device settings, including Screen Time." My 25th Podcast Episode đThis week on Gluten Free Unwrapped, I interviewed my dear friend and the uberâwise Colin OâNeal, president of Gluten Free & More magazine. Colin has created a stunning publication filled with recipes, product recommendations, and helpful content for everyday gluten-free living. And if you havenât met Colin, youâll quickly learn that this work is deeply personal to him. We discuss how the gluten-free movement has evolved, why his magazine is thriving despite a decline in industry print subscriptions, and how his art background enables him to create a magazine on par with titles like Bon AppĂ©tit. đ§ Listen wherever you get your podcasts (Apple Podcast | Spotify) As I mentioned last week, this podcast is some of my best content yetâbut it needs more ears. If you havenât already, please search âGluten Free Unwrappedâ in your podcast app, download the episode with Colin, and/or check out my other episodes - two I highly recommend include Alex Murphy, CEO of BFree, and Karen Hertz, founder of Holidaily Brewing Co. Thank you for giving me the motivation to keep going. More episodes to come! â€ïž Can You Serve in the Military If You Have Celiac?I love when readers ask questions I donât know the answer toâit gives me a reason to dig deeper! Recently, someone asked if celiac disease disqualifies someone from serving in the U.S. military. I found an article from the Army Times detailing eight surprising medical conditions that can prevent enlistment, and, of course, celiac disease is on the list, along with food allergies. Why? Likely because service members can be deployed where gluten-free meals are limited, and cross-contamination from prepared group meals could make someone ill. While some branches may allow service thanks to the growing availability of gluten-free MREs, celiac disease will likely preclude military service. More from GF LandHalloween Candy: Don't be tricked by hidden gluten this Halloween. Be sure to consult my list of gluten-free candies to determine which are safe and which are not. Remember, information can change from year to year - and the information on the label will ALWAYS be the most accurate. New Research on NCGWS: According to new research published this week in Gut, about 1 in 10 people worldwide experience symptoms like bloating, fatigue, or headaches after eating gluten or wheatâeven though they donât have celiac disease or a wheat allergy. This is one of the first studies to investigate the global prevalence of this disorder. A Spooky Recipe: And it wouldn't be Halloween without a bit of baking magic. These are my spooktacular gluten-free sugar cookies made with vegan royal icing. If I can make these, you can make them. đ Get the recipe here. Have a wonderful Halloween and weekend, friends. Hello Reader, Next month, Love Me Gluten Free turns two. And weâve come a long way since those humble beginnings in my basement, where friends and family helped me pack our very first boxes. Remember my first box ever? It was themed "Love From Colorado" and featured brands from my home state. This business hasnât been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding. Iâm grateful to every single one of you who has supported this journey, whether youâve purchased a box, followed along through these...
Hello Reader, It's the first day of spring, and I've got a new Nima test, fun recipes, new product finds (and discounts), and more. Let's get to it! Testing Drumroll Donuts đ© I think Iâm losing my mind. I saw a celiac creator post about Drumroll donuts, saying they contain oats, but when I checked the ingredient list. There are no oats. Regardless, I thought, let's go ahead and test them with my Nima, just to put everyone's mind at ease. As you know, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship...
Hello Reader, Many of you have told me how much my weekly newsletter means to you, and truly, that feedback never gets old. That said⊠a few of you have gently (and not-so-gently đ) mentioned that my Friday emails can be a bit long. Fair. I do tend to have a lot to say. This week, Iâm trying two shorter newsletters you can quickly scan and enjoy. Letâs see how it goes. Feedback is always welcome! Exciting Changes at LMGF As many of you know, I also founded Love Me Gluten Free, a subscription...
