Gluten-Free Food for Wildfire Relief

If you or someone you know is gluten-free and affected by the devastating LA Wildfires, please encourage them to complete this form to get a free box of GF food from me.

I'm using leftover food from my Love Me Gluten Free boxes to bring a little cheer to those in need. I think I can make another 20-25 more boxes with my current supplies. Every little bit counts.

U Can't Touch This

Celiac disease myths are widespread, and I've written about them in my article, 16 Surprising Celiac Disease Myths.

One common myth (Myth #7 on my list) is that people with celiac disease can't touch gluten. In reality, gluten must be ingested to trigger an autoimmune reaction, and touching gluten won't harm someone with celiac. That said, precautions are essential to avoid accidental ingestion.

(If you have a wheat allergy, you can have a reaction from touching wheat. I'm talking about celiac disease only here.)

βœ… You must wash your hands well after touching gluten and before touching food or your mouth.

βœ… I also think it's essential to use gluten-free skincare products. This will ensure you don't accidentally transfer gluten from your hands into your mouth.

Lotion Recommendation: If you’re searching for a 100% gluten-free lotion, I recommend the Everyone brand. It’s made with essential oils that soothe dry, cracked skin and smell amazing. Living in Colorado, where my skin gets unbearably itchy, this lotion has been a lifesaver. It provides much-needed relief without the worry of gluten exposure.

I'm Traveling Next Week, and This is How I'm Preparing

On Sunday, I'm heading to the Winter Fancy Foods Show in Las Vegas. I hope to explore some new foods to share here and inside my Love Me Gluten-Free boxes. Stay tuned!

Here are three items I'm taking with me in my carry-on:

(1) The GFB Oatmeal: I'm obsessed with The GFB portable oatmeal packets. They lay flat, but when you squeeze the sides together, you have a cup. Add hot water, and your nourishing and 100% gluten-free breakfast awaits you.

(2) BeanVIVO: I hate scrambling for a quick lunch when traveling. That's why I love these BeanVIVO Salad Protein Boosters. While they taste great on a salad, I eat them straight outta the pouch.

πŸ‘‰ Use the code LOVEMEGF15 for 15% off at beanvivo.com through May.

(3) Lorissa's Kitchen: Protein is fuel, so I also stash a few Lorissa's Kitchen products in my purse. I love the bold flavors of their meat sticks and smoky jerky. Best of all, everything is gluten-free and free from the top nine allergens. And I love supporting this woman-owned business.

Is this Insurance Discrimination?

My husband and I have life insurance policies that are about to expire, and we decided we would look into renewing them. The most significant change in my life is I now have celiac disease. I disclosed this on my application and was pre-approved at a specific rate.

Then, after four weeks of running around to doctors and doing all the tests they asked me to do, they reneged on their original quote and nearly doubled the monthly fee.

I asked them why since all my tests came back normal, I'm a healthy weight, I take no prescription medications, I have no family history of serious illnesses, and my colonoscopy found no polyps. They said they reconsidered because I have celiac disease, and they can't be sure I would adequately manage it.

The truth is, insurance agents and actuaries know nothing about me. They have no idea how much time, effort, and money I spend eating the right foods and caring for myself.

Our insurance company tried to price gouge us, so we're looking elsewhere for coverage.

Sincere question - has anyone else been discriminated against (life insurance-wise) for having celiac disease?

My Heart is with Omer

I've been following the story of a 21-year-old Israeli civilian hostage named Omer Shem Tov, who has celiac disease and asthma and has been held captive for 468 days. I've interviewed his mom, and my husband met his dad. Our hearts have been captive with Omer and his family for these excruciating 468 days.

A deal is in place to bring home some of the hostages over the next 5-6 weeks. Someone leaked a rumored list of the names of the first hostages to be released in the deal. I scanned the list, and the last name on the "rumored" list is Omer Shem Tov.

Please pray for Omer's safe return, along with the return of all the innocent people being held by the worst scum on earth. If you're new here, this is OMER'S STORY, and I unabashedly stand with him.

Wishing for peace and health for all!

Sincerely,

Jenny 🩷
