GF Restaurateur vs. Shark Tank | Shredded Cheese that Contains Gluten | GF Deals of the Week

Hello Reader,

Happy Friday!

Did you see Shark Tank on Wednesday night?

Dina Mitchell, the founder of PowerSoul Cafe, a dedicated, certified gluten-free fast-food chain in Las Vegas, pitched her business to the sharks.

Spoiler incoming... skip the next few sentences if you don't want to know what happened.

Dina was clearly nervous during her pitch. At times, her back-and-forth with the Sharks came across as a bit argumentative, and she struggled to share the numbers they were looking for, which seemed to frustrate some of them. Overall, her presentation (at least what we saw on TV) felt a little clunky.

In the end, the Sharks didn’t share her vision, and Dina left the tank without a deal.

I think Dina is great, and I really enjoyed getting to know her during my interview on Gluten Free Unwrapped (listen here).

While her presentation and communication style could use some polish, I love her passion and what she’s built. And I know that putting yourself out there, as she did, is so hard to do.

I have no doubt this experience will open doors for her, and I’m hopeful the right investor will see the beauty in what she’s created for our community. Wishing Dina all the best!!

And if you're ever in Las Vegas, make sure you give her restaurant a try!

Let’s Talk About Shredded Cheese… 🧀

I posted a question on Instagram this week that really got the community talking: Does shredded cheese contain gluten?

I get this question every so often, and while I’ve heard that shredded cheese can contain gluten and you need to be extra careful… the truth is, I’ve never personally come across a brand that does.

Of course, you always want to read labels, and some dairy-free shredded cheeses do contain gluten, so definitely be mindful there.

But when it comes to traditional shredded cheese? I haven’t seen gluten hiding in any of the mainstream store brands.

What’s interesting is that so many of you have heard this same “be careful, shredded cheese has gluten” warning, yet you haven’t actually seen it either.

Promise me this: if you come across shredded cheese that contains gluten, tell me about it. I want to make sure our community is informed if this truly exists.

But for now, you can feel confident that most shredded cheese today is safe.

And as always, keep reading those labels, because things can always change. 🤷‍♀️

What Is Love Me Gluten Free?

Many of you know me from Good For You Gluten Free, but you might not realize I’m also the founder of Love Me Gluten Free, a dedicated gluten-free subscription box.

I started LMGF two years ago to help our community feel good about being gluten-free and to share all the fun products I get access to as a creator.

I honestly had no idea that so many of you would join on this crazy journey!

It means so much to me that these boxes have become a part of your lives. I take my responsibility -- in both helping you discover new foods and bringing you joy and normalcy each month -- very seriously.

I’ve put together another really special box for May (Celiac Disease Awareness Month), and I’d love your support. This one is full of nostalgic vibes, the kinds of things you remember loving in your childhood. It also leans more savory than sweet this month. Think comforting meals, crunchy snacks, and just really good food.

NEW! If you’re dairy-free, you can also choose our gluten-free + dairy-free option. It’s very similar to our Signature GF box, with a few thoughtful swaps.

👉 Get 20% off your first box with code MAYMAGIC at lovemeglutenfree.com (new subscribers only).

And if you haven’t seen it yet… this is my April box. Isn’t she a beauty?!

Hello Reader, I do my best to keep you informed on all things gluten-free… but sometimes what I have to share just plain sucks. This is one of those times. As of April 2026, Mars has updated several M&M’s products in New Zealand—including Peanut, Milk Chocolate, and Minis—to include gluten-containing ingredients (specifically barley malt extract). They’re working to spread the word, even sponsoring a post with @coeliacnewzealand to notify the community (more like… alarm everyone). For now,...

Hello Reader, This weekend is my 14th anniversary with celiac disease. BC (before celiac), life was simpler. I ate anything I wanted and never bothered to read a food label. AC (after celiac), I turned into a fervent label reader. I choose carefully what I will and won't eat. And I've learned more than I care to know about ingredients like yeast extract, maltodextrin, and natural flavors. But the honest truth is, as much as having celiac sucks (it does), it's also not that bad. I know I sound...

Hello Reader, My birthday is today, and I’m feeling extra grateful this year. Grateful for you. For this community.
