Is the 20 ppm Gluten Threshold Enough? | Saving You 💰 | Product Recall | Omer is Coming Home!

Hello Reader,

We need to talk about the 20 ppm gluten threshold, but before we do, I want to make sure you know that if you've wanted to join the Love Me Gluten-Free community for a while, now is your chance!

Our March gluten-free subscription box is on sale now, and it's calling your name, "Reader!" It's PACKED with gluten-free goodies, and truth be told, I'm a little worried if the boxes will properly close.

👉 Use the code MARCHMUNCHIES20 to get 20% off your first box (subscriptions only) at lovemeglutenfree.com.

Is the 20 ppm Threshold Enough?

In 2013, the FDA established gluten-free labeling guidelines, including the 20 parts per million (ppm) gluten threshold manufacturers use to determine whether a product is "gluten-free."

The truth is, this means that even gluten-free (and certified gluten-free) products contain trace amounts of gluten (up to 20 ppm of gluten).

Should you be worried?

The researchers who set this threshold say, "No."

They say there is an unavoidable presence of gluten in foods, even those that carry the gluten-free label.

They also say that 20 ppm is the lowest level that can be consistently detected in foods using valid scientific analytical tools, and many people with celiac disease can tolerate foods with tiny amounts of gluten.

So, while you're likely eating tiny traces of gluten here and there, don't panic.

Researchers say you'd have to eat something like 17 slices of gluten-free bread containing 20 ppm of gluten each to cause intestinal damage in people with celiac disease. That means you would still be okay if you ate several items in one day, and they all contained 20 ppm of gluten.

I encourage you to read my full article, Is the FDA's 20ppm Gluten Threshold Enough? for more information on this topic. Knowledge is power.

The bottom line is that the FDA set the 20 ppm threshold based on rigorous testing from leading celiac physicians. Unless new testing proves otherwise, you should feel confident eating foods labeled "gluten-free."

Deals, Deals & More Deals

I know everyone is complaining about egg prices, but you all shop for gluten-free groceries, so you know what it's like to pay more money for less food. 😂

I want to help you.

I spend a lot of time negotiating deals for our community, so please take advantage of that. Plus, if we want to see our favorite brands succeed, we must support them. 🙏

⭐⭐ BTW, if you buy any of these products, email me your receipt with proof you used the coupon code. I've got a special bonus for you.⭐⭐

And without further ado, here are some fantastic deals to take advantage of this week:

Deal #1: Chebe Bread Mixes

These bread mixes are so good. They're inspired by Brazillian cheese bread (think Brazi Bites), and everything I make from them has a soft and doughy texture. It's unbelievable bread.

I included Chebe's Garlic Breakstick mix in my February box, but they also have mixes for Cinnamon Rolls, Pizza Crust, Focaccia, and more!

Deal #2: NUFS Crackers

I might be NUFS' #1 fan! If you haven't tried these simple crackers with clean ingredients, you're in for a real treat. They're free from gluten, dairy, and seed oils, and we're currently crushing on the Hot Honey Flavor. It's a little sweet, a little spicy, and a lot sassy. Find them at Whole Foods, HEB, or Sprouts, or use my special code to buy them online.

Deal #3: Red Plate Foods

I spoke with the founder of Red Plate Foods this week. She is doing excellent work, and they make delicious soft-baked cookies and granola. The Oatmeal Raisin cookie has become a favorite in my house!

You can support this family-owned business by shopping for Red Plate Food products online, and I've got a fantastic deal for you, so please take advantage.

Deal #4: Fruit Bliss

Last week, I told you about Fruit Bliss. They make rehydrated fruit and recently included tart cherries in my February box. I love tart cherries in my salads. I'm hooked!

I shared the coupon code last week, and I'm so sorry, but it didn't work properly. We've since fixed it.

🍒 Get 25% off at fruitbliss.com with the code GLUTENFREE25. Try the tart cherries, apricots, figs, dates - or all flavors when you order the Sampler Pack.

Feel Good Foods - Two Updates

Feel Good Foods has been in the news twice this week. First, they launched new bagel bites that look amazing - see below. I will be buying these soon (and those getting the next LMGF box may be buying them too, hint hint!).

However, the company also issued a recall for its Three Cheese Mac & Cheese Bites due to concerns over metal fragments, likely caused by manufacturing malfunction. Bummer, but at least they caught the issue and it sounds like it was very isolated.

Pray for Omer

I have some amazing - bittersweet - news to share! Omer Shem Tov, the young Israeli man with celiac disease that we've been praying for every day, is set to be released on Saturday (tomorrow) after 503 days in captivity.

Please pray for Omer's safe return. This is HIS STORY.

My heart is also 💔 by the sad news about the three 🧡🧡🧡 angels. If you don't understand what I'm talking about, email me, and I'll gladly explain.

Much love, health, and peace to all. We can all use a hug right now.

Sincerely,

Jenny 🩷

Hello Reader, This weekend would normally be "packing weekend" for my Love Me Gluten Free subscription boxes. But instead of packing 1300 boxes, I will be spending time with my family, taking a class at Orange Theory, and doing some pre-Passover cleaning. How is this possible, you ask? As many of you know, my family and I have been prepping and packing LMGF boxes for a full year. While I love my business, the physical parts have taken their toll on me and my husband. When we realized this...

Hello Reader, Many of you joined my Facebook Live Unboxing on Sunday (thank you!) and told me that you love being a part of this community. The gluten-free lifestyle can feel isolating at times, so these brief times together make us feel less alone. I have to tell you a funny story about how this crazy lifestyle connects us in special ways. My college roommate (hi Stephanie) emailed me this week. We haven't talked since 1999! She found me after she and her son were diagnosed with celiac...
